MHA asks states to ensure migrant workers board special trains, provide them food and shelter

The Centre on Friday requested the states to make sure that the migrant staff board the particular trains and do not should stroll again to their native locations, amid the coronavirus COVID-19 lockdown, as it’s working buses and over 100 ‘Shramik’ specials day by day to facilitate their journey. In an official assertion, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has asserted that the individuals must be made privy to these arrangments and counselled by the states to not journey on foot.

The Centre requested states and union territories to offer meals and shelter to migrant staff if they’re discovered strolling on roads and railways tracks. Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla mentioned motion of migrant staff on roads, railway tracks and in vehicles continues to be being seen in numerous elements of the nation.

States and union territories have been suggested earlier that if migrant staff are discovered to be strolling, they need to be appropriately counselled, taken to close by shelters and offered meals and water until such time they’re facilitated to board the Shramik Special trains or buses to their native locations, he mentioned.

Bhalla mentioned the federal government has already allowed the motion of migrant staff by buses and Shramik Special trains to allow them to journey to their house states. “It is now the responsibility of all states and union territories to ensure that movement of stranded migrant workers who are willing to go to their home states is facilitated,” he mentioned.

“States/UTs should widely disseminate the arrangements for travel in special buses/ ‘Shramik’ special trains amongst the migrant workers and persuade/ counsel them that they should not be walking when they can travel in buses/ trains,” the letter mentioned.

The house secretary mentioned with the cooperation of states and union territories, the Ministry of Railways is working greater than 100 Shramik Special trains per day and is able to organize extra trains as per their requirement. “Therefore, I urge you to ensure that there is no movement of migrant workers walking on roads and railway tracks and the same is facilitated through special buses or Shramik Special trains,” he mentioned.
