Implementing odd-even scheme will be ‘last weapon’ to fight air pollution: Delhi govt

New Delhi: Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Monday mentioned implementing the odd-even highway rationing scheme could be the “last weapon” to combat air air pollution within the metropolis and presently the federal government is specializing in the “Red Light On, Gaadi off” marketing campaign.

The odd-even scheme is a highway rationing plan below which odd and even-numbered autos ply on alternate days.

Responding to a query at a press convention, Rai mentioned if all different methods fail then the Delhi authorities will take into consideration implementing the odd-even scheme.

“We have implemented the odd-even scheme several times in Delhi and it will be our last weapon. Odd-even is also a way to reduce vehicular pollution so right now we are completely focussing on this (‘Red Light On, Gaadi off’) campaign and if all other programmes don’t work then the government will think about implementing the odd-even scheme,” he mentioned.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on October 15 launched the ‘Red Light On, Gaadi off’ (purple gentle on, engine off) marketing campaign to sort out air air pollution within the nationwide capital and urged folks to show off the engines of their autos whereas ready at site visitors alerts.
