“The claim is malicious because the volunteer was specifically informed by the medical team that the complications he suffered were independent of the vaccine trial he underwent. The Serum Institute asserted that it could search Rs 100 crore from the volunteer for making false claims and can take all steps to defend itself from all such malicious claims.
Earlier, a Chennai resident, who was a volunteer for the third part of Covishield, claimed Rs 5 crore as compensation for “a serious adverse event after being administered the under-trial vaccine”.
The 40-year-old man was administered the dose of the vaccine on October 1 at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER) in Chennai.
